A Great Start to Summer at Southcott BeachSummer is off to a fantastic start at…
Beach Committee Update – August 21, 2026
Earlier this summer, the Association made the decision to keep the Sun Beach overflow parking lot closed when there was sufficient capacity in the main lot. The intent was to make better use of our Ambassador resources by redeploying staff to other beach and laneway activities rather than monitoring a second parking area when additional parking capacity was not required.
As the summer progressed, however, it became clear that the South lot provides value beyond simply serving as overflow parking. For some members — particularly those bringing kayaks, paddleboards, floating mats, young children or other beach equipment — access to that lot makes a meaningful difference to their Sun Beach experience.
Feedback received from members through the SPPA office, Board members and Committee Chairs reinforced that the closure was having a greater impact on the member experience than originally anticipated. We thank those members who took the time to share their experiences and perspectives with us. That feedback was helpful in reassessing the balance between operating efficiency and member convenience.
As a result, the decision was revisited, and the overflow lot will remain open and monitored for the balance of the season.
This is a good example of why we continue to evaluate our operating practices throughout the summer. Our objective is not simply to manage costs, but to balance responsible use of Association resources with a positive member experience.
